Chat / Puppy Training ? Teach Your Dog Not To Chase
« on: April 29, 2011, 05:20:35 am »
It is perfectly logical and acceptable that chasing is an animal instinct among every pet, especially for puppies. Whenever they see cat, car, person or anything that moves it always drive them crazy and have increased desire to chase on that moving object along the road. It will be best to do the puppy training for their own safety. It is always dangerous for them to chase around any moving objects as they may be hit by a vehicle along the road or quarrel with other animals outdoor and get injured, so better interfere with this puppy behavior as early as possible.

For safety and security, do the puppy training first inside the house or backyard. Don?t forget to put him on leash and hold on to it. Now, get any material that won?t be hazardous for him to chase such as an empty plastic bottle. Get his attention on the bottle by waving it in front of his face. After that roll the bottle away from him and when he starts to run after it, say the word ?Off!? while giving him a firm tug on the leash. Make sure that he wasn?t able to touch the bottle the whole time or this may confuse him that the word ?off? means to touch the thing. Do this several times a day until he understands the real essence of the word ?off?.

When the puppy seems to understand the word ?off?, try letting go of the leash but do not remove it from him in case of anything that goes wrong, the owner can always step on the leash to stop him. If the puppy has good improvement, try letting him off ?leash. Gradually do a higher level of puppy training for him to master the command perfectly. If the owner is confident enough that he understands the word ?off?, the puppy can now mingle outdoors without the worry of chasing moving objects.
